What Should You Consider Before Installing an Interactive Touch Display?

An interactive display can look straightforward when it is still on the quotation sheet. Screen size, resolution, touch function, operating system, and power consumption are usually listed in a few lines.

The real questions tend to appear after the equipment reaches the project site.

How high should the screen be mounted? Will one person use it or several people? Does the application actually need multi-touch? Is Android enough, or does the customer need Windows? How much contact will the front glass receive during a normal day?

These details have little to do with marketing specifications. They affect whether the display feels right once people start using it.

For our Infrared Wall Mounted Touch Screen Display, we usually look at the complete application before confirming the final configuration. The series covers 42/43-inch, 49/50-inch, 55-inch, and 65-inch sizes, with a 1920 × 1080P IPS panel, optional infrared or capacitive touch, tempered glass, and Android or Windows system options.

Here are several points we recommend checking before an interactive display becomes part of a project.

Start With the User, Not the Screen Size

The largest screen is not automatically the best choice.

A 43-inch display installed beside a reception desk may be more convenient than a 65-inch unit if visitors only need to check a few pieces of information at a time.

The situation changes in a classroom or exhibition hall. Several people may need to see the same content, and the operator may need enough room for images, menus, diagrams, or other interactive elements.

The active areas of our four main size options are quite different:

Viewing distance should be considered at the same time.

A small screen viewed from very far away can make text difficult to read. A large screen installed too close to the user can make the interface uncomfortable to operate.

The right size comes from the space, the content, and the number of people using the screen.

Touch Technology Should Match the Application

A touchscreen does not necessarily need every available touch function.

For a simple information terminal, users may only tap icons, scroll through pages, and return to the home screen. There may be little practical value in specifying advanced gesture functions.

A product catalog can be different. Users may enlarge photographs, move images, compare products, or navigate several sections of information.

Education and exhibition applications can make even greater use of multi-point interaction.

Our displays can be configured with infrared or capacitive touch, depending on the project.

Infrared touch is a strong option for large-format interactive displays, particularly when a broad touch area and multi-point operation are required. Capacitive touch offers the familiar finger-operated experience people already know from mobile devices.

The software should be considered before the decision is finalized.

A touch system may support ten touch points, but the application might only use one. There is no reason to pay for a function that the project will never use.

On the other hand, if the software relies on gestures or simultaneous operation, limiting the hardware to basic touch can create problems later.

Think About the Front Glass Before the Screen Goes Into Service

The front of an interactive display gets handled much more than an ordinary signage screen.

A showroom customer may touch the same product image several times. Students may operate a classroom display throughout a lesson. Public information equipment can be used by hundreds of people who have different habits when touching a screen.

The surface also gets cleaned.

Our wall-mounted touch display uses tempered explosion-proof glass, with impact resistance, scratch resistance, good light transmission, and resistance to heat and cold.

The purpose is not simply to make the product look more solid.

The glass sits between the user and the LCD panel, so it needs to provide protection without unnecessarily affecting the image underneath. Good light transmission is particularly relevant when the display contains product photography, small text, maps, or detailed graphics.

For equipment installed in a public or commercial environment, the front panel should be treated as part of the working structure rather than a decorative cover.

Installation Height Can Change the User Experience

The same display can feel very different at two different mounting heights.

Consider a 65-inch interactive screen in a school. If the upper part of the interface is difficult for students to reach, the large display area does not provide much benefit.

A public information terminal creates another problem. The equipment may be used by people of different heights, so the main controls should remain within a comfortable operating range.

The surrounding space matters too.

A screen installed beside a busy passage has a greater chance of accidental contact than one placed in a dedicated interactive area. Furniture, barriers, wall construction, and cable routing can all affect the final installation.

Before mounting the display, the project team should confirm:

  • Wall structure

  • Mounting height

  • Viewing distance

  • User height range

  • Screen orientation

  • Cable routing

  • Power supply

  • Space around the display

These details are easy to leave until installation day. By then, changing the position can become much more difficult.

Android or Windows Should Follow the Software

The operating system is another specification that should not be chosen in isolation.

Our display supports Android or Windows, giving project customers different options depending on the software they plan to run.

An Android configuration can make sense for an application developed specifically for Android touch devices.

Windows may be the better route when the customer already has Windows software, PC-based applications, or other equipment that needs to work with the display.

The important part is compatibility.

Before a larger order goes into production, we recommend confirming the application environment, touch driver, processor requirements, memory requirements, ports, and network connection.

The mainboard can be configured according to the selected system, with available ports depending on the configuration.

A display can have the right size and excellent image quality but still be unsuitable for a project if the customer's application does not run correctly.

Content Layout Matters More on an Interactive Screen

A large display gives content creators plenty of space, but that does not mean every part of the screen needs to be filled.

Our display supports intelligent split-screen playback, including one-screen, two-screen, three-screen, and multi-screen carousel modes.

A showroom might place a product video in the main area and keep specifications beside it.

A public information system could show a map next to directions.

A commercial display might combine promotional images with product information.

The interface needs to leave enough space for users to understand what they can touch.

This becomes especially important on a large screen. Putting too many buttons or information blocks into one layout can make navigation harder, even when the hardware itself is responsive.

Good content planning should happen alongside hardware configuration rather than after the display has already been installed.

Three Project Examples

Retail Showroom

A 49/50-inch or 55-inch model can provide enough space for product browsing without taking over the entire wall.

Customers can check specifications, view product images, and browse different categories.

The priorities here are usually clear image presentation, comfortable touch operation, durable front glass, and compatibility with the showroom's software.

Classroom

A 55-inch or 65-inch display gives the teacher and students a larger shared working area.

If the application supports handwriting, gestures, or simultaneous touch, multi-point capability becomes more relevant.

Mounting height also deserves careful attention because students may have very different heights.

Public Information Area

A public display has less predictable users.

Visitors may arrive without any knowledge of the interface, so the menu needs to be easy to understand. The front surface also needs to cope with frequent touching and cleaning.

A suitable screen size, durable glass, straightforward software, and accessible mounting position usually matter more here than adding unnecessary functions.

A Few Checks Before Placing the Order

For project customers, we recommend putting the following information into the specification before production:

The standard display provides 1920 × 1080 resolution, a 178-degree viewing angle, brightness of at least 350 cd/m², and a 1200:1 contrast ratio. Power input is AC110–220V, with maximum power consumption listed at ≤280W.

These numbers provide a starting point, but the project requirements still determine the final configuration.

The Better Question Is Not “Which Screen Is Best?”

For an interactive display project, there is rarely one specification that decides everything.

Screen size depends on the viewing distance and number of users. Touch technology depends on the application. Glass depends partly on the expected frequency of contact. Android or Windows depends on the software environment. Mounting height depends on the people standing in front of the screen.
